Digital TV has several advantages over analogue TV. Digital broadcasters can provide more

digital channels in the same space, provide high-definition television service, or provide

other non-television services such as multimedia or interactivity. These channels are

known as Freeview TV and have taken over from the 'old 'analogue channels.

All new Televisions have Freeview tuners built in nowadays so there is no need for a separate box and all the extra wires and remote controls.

Old aerials may work perfectly well with the new digital system, so long as its not

too old.

Digital and analogue signals react differently to interference. For example, common

problems with analogue television included ghosting of images, noise from weak signals,

and many other potential problems which degraded the quality of the image and sound,

although the program would still have been watchable.

With digital television, the audio and video must be synchronized digitally, so reception

of the digital signal must be very clean otherwise neither audio nor video will be usable.

Pixellation or blockiness or complete loss of picture are symptoms there may be a problem.

If you experience these problems an aerial and cabling upgrade may be required.
